First we got a quick snack (I had only eaten 1 croissant at 5am) and then went on a bit of a sight seeing tour. We saw this bridge which was apparently designed by Eiffel (same dude as the tower). I didn't check the reference on that but I'm sure Carla is a reliable source. I wonder how many people see these two structures back to back? Not many I'd say (if any).
Then we went to check out some streets and found this (called the cube):
Which I reckon is one of the coolest water fountains I have seen. Then we went to a park where some "hard working ladies" work at night. We found a couple of statues like this:
There are 4 guys, and they are all laughing their asses off. It was hard not to smile looking at them. Even the one that was about to break his crown (which I later discovered was his cranium!) was having a hell of a time. Great stuff.
Although I was not really hungry again yet it was lunchtime so we went to where Carla takes all of her visitors for lunch. She takes so many people there that the waiter once asked her if she was running a tourist business! I had already asked her if I could have a Francesinha and she said that this place did the best ones in Porto. It was described to me by the Use It map for Porto as "a calorie bomb" and it didn't disappoint. The name means "Little French girl" which was dreamt up by some dude that wanted to stick it to the French. Without further ado:
It was pretty incredible. It is a ham/sausage/cheese/chorizo sandwich (yes there is actually bread in there) which is covered with a thick layer of melted cheese and a fried egg on top. Then there was the chips with the meat sauce all around it. It was almost like something they would come up with on Epic Meal Time. I managed to get through it all. Yum. Carla also got me a deep-fried meat packet thing which was pretty good too. Hell, they really know how to eat here!
After that we went back to Carlas house which is just south of the main Porto town. I had a bit of a snooze and when it had cooled down a bit I went for a run down the beach. I am pretty damn stoked I came to visit Carla here, I doubt I would have made it to Porto otherwise and I can already see it is an awesome place. Still feels like summer here and where Carla lives is a wee beach town. Soooo good. During my run the sun went down, I took about half a billion photos of but I'll just post the one here:
Carla cooked an amazing soup for dinner but got a little upset when I put cheese in it. I tried to put ham in it too but she wouldn't let me. For dessert we had some really nice honey walnut ice cream.
It's midnight so I will go off to bed to sleep in my own room, with little to no random dudes snoring up a storm. I also used a real towel after my shower as opposed to the travel towel (which feels like rubbing yourself with velvet). Pretty stoked right now.
