American Tour of Brussels
So I had a pretty lazy morning again. Damn blog keeping me up late. I went to meet the Americans (I hope they don't mind being called that) for a beer beside this weird-ass thing:
I don't really know what the hell is going on, I mean its weird enough that it is a peeing statue, but some woman dresses it up. It apparently has different costumes that you can see at a museum. I don't approve. There was also a guy pushing a cart around with a miniature of the statue on it that would pee on people he aimed it at. But check out his moustache!:
I think it is asymmetrical, curled up on one side and down on the other! After the beer we went searching for a genuine Belgium food place. Props to Melia (yeah, its Hawaiian apparently) for the navigation skills. Unfortunately the place we were looking for was closed but we went next door and found some pretty tasty stuff too. I ordered the only thing on the english menu that was indiciferable, Col de mor or some shit. It turned out to be an amazing chicken creamy thing with meatballs in it. Another standout was the stew that Aaron and Greg got. More beer.
We then went for a wander around and found this dog statue, what the hell is up with Brussels and peeing statues?
We also stumbled across the second band playing in the streets (the first was on Friday). The Americans also had one go past their apartment in the morning. Apparently there is some festival on, I don't really care what the reason is cos check out the hats that they had on, Silly hats only!
There is also random stuff all over Brussels, for instance:
For afternoon tea we went to get a hot chocolate. Holy crap, the Belgiums know how to make chocolate taste even better than chocolate. Sooooo good. Our wandering continued and we found ourselves at "Beermania". All roads lead to beer in Belgium. It is a place that sells many different types of Belgium beer. We also had a pint of their flash house beer in a 45 euro, crystal glass:
Classy. Jimmy, you gotta go to Belgium, even the standard Belgium beer is as good as the craft beers in New Zealand. Its all amazing. I went back the Americans apartment for a yarn about singing, politics, Sinsinatti and other assorted topics. At some stage some delicious fries were also purchased and consumed. Mine had aloganusel (or something like that) sauce on it that was described as the best by the store owner and he wasn't lying. A massive thank you to the Americans for letting me tag along on your trip to Brussels, which in turn made my stay damn awesome. Left to right: Greg, Virginia, Malia, Blade and Aaron. Cheers!
I have been pretty lucky so far with meeting people to hang out with but every time I leave them I worry I'll never find anyone to talk to again. Dumb huh?
