Music in a Wee Shack

On Saturday (8/9) I went for a bit of a drive around with Gary. We saw what was left of Wick, so not really much. He did show me a wacky outside salt water swimming pool:

What the hell? It looks so terrible. I can't understand how that is much better than swimming in the sea anyway, I'm pretty sure sharks could jump that wall. It looks pretty grodie too but apparently still used in the summer.

In preparation for the nights events we went for a nosh up at "Spoons" where the food was great and the prices reasonable. We met up with one of Garys mates before catching a taxi to the backwater venue. To get there we had a hand sketched map but the taxi driver didn't seem to have a problem following it. We were somewhat skeptical whether any taxis could find their way out there to pick us up again but it was best not to worry about that. The venue itself was the ruins of an old house (or "hoose" as they are called here) The roof had rotted away long ago so some enterprising Scottish lads had constructed a makeshift support beam and stretched a canvas over it. Inside there was a stage and fairy lights/candles for lighting. Apparently there were cows (or "cous" as they are called here) living in the building the day before so there was some sawdust and straw on the floor to reduce the mud factor. It was pretty awesome. There was some great music and Gary and I polished off the best part of a bottle of Captain Morgans spiced rum, cheers captain. I could barely understand any of the people there but had a while making non sensical discussion with them anyway. After the bands had finished we went to the only nightclub in Wick which was pretty funny. At first I thought there was no one there but then I realised that the place was enormous. Why they need such a big nightclub I don't know but we had a couple more drinks there. I think at some stage I did some amazing highland dancing on the stage.
